My Top 5 Favourite Movies of 2022

1) Bullet Train

One of the biggest surprises for me this year was Bullet Train, a movie I honestly wasn’t initially planning on seeing in theatres, until I heard some pretty divisive opinions when comparing critic reviews to the usual movie-goer. Enter one of my favourite movies of 2022, Starring Brad Pritt, incredible chemistry between Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Brian Tyree-Henry in addition to a plethora of awesome of incredible cameos. This film, despite being so absurd in many ways, Bullet Train is a blast in it’s rediculouslness from start to finish, set in the colourful world of a bullet train in Japan, gave me a feast for the eyes and a solid laugh for the soul.

2) Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

In the last couple of years I can’t think of any other movie apart from the original Knives Out directed by Rian Johnson, with one of the most brilliant casts of recent movies. I’ve never been a massive fan of murder mysteries, but this modern take set in the cosy countryside of New England was one I’ll never forget, and a huge inspirational piece for making films in the future myself. The follow up, brings us on another Murder Mystery following Benoit Blanc (played by the brilliant Daniel Craig) takes us to Greece in another thoroughly entertaining Murder Mystery!

3) The Batman

We’ve had tonnes of Batman’s over the years from animations to live action movies. and there’s lot’s of love about them all. What The Batman does differently, that truly made me love the film are it’s world-building, cinematography and contrasting take on the famous Dark Knight. Robert Pattison really brings an awesome new take on a Year 1 - 2 Dark Knight, but the atmosphere set by The Batman really delivered an epic new take on my favourite superhero. I’m hoping Greg Fraiser wins the Oscar for best cinematography in 2023!

4) Top Gun: Maverick

There’s not much more that can be said about Top Gun: Maverick, except it’s a love letter to exciting cinema. From start to end, the film has a lot of heart, action and jaw dropping scenes filmed all practically in real environments. Also came from it, was a beautiful track with original songs from Lady Gaga and One Republic. I must it admit, I spent the most time in theatres watching Top Gun on repeat, and my only regret is that I didn’t watch it more.

5) Everything, Everywhere, All At Once

A total surprise and something I never expected to witness this year. I heard about Everything, Everywhere, All At Once online, as many people did, and was so pleasantly surprised to be able to be apart of witnessing such a unique film from an independent movie. Another great spectacle, with a lot of heart and depth, I can’t wait to pick this up on a 4K BluRay and watch it on repeat!

My Favourite Pick: Ghostbusters Afterlife

I do have a confession to make on this one, well two actually. One, I had only just recently watched the original two Ghost Busters this year, and secondly, Ghostbusters afterlife was technically released in November 2021, however I only was able to see it theatres earlier in 2022, so I’ll technically count it as a 2022 movie! I also hadn’t had the chance to watch the recent Ghostbusters film in 2017, but considering it seems more like a reboot than a story continuation of the originals, I might take a pass on it for now. I must say, I absolutely loved Afterlife, to an extent that it brought so much emotion by the end of the film. A perfect tribute, story and continuation of a wonderful franchise. I’m always a little hesitant when watching a movie where the main lead cast and story surrounds a group of kids, but Finn Wolfhard, Logan Kim, Mckenna Grace and more pull of incredible performances! How the stroy wraps up, really does bring Ghostbusters Afterlife to my number one spot, that’s for sure!
