My new favourite Cinema Camera

I don’t often upgrade cameras, and have stuck with my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K pro for the last 2.5 years now, it’s been incredible. I love the camera, it’s essentially gotten me to where I am today. Over the last couple of years, I’ve also developed somewhat of an obsession for the opengate look of cinema. Most notably, in it’s truest 1.43:1 form that comes from 15/70MM IMAX film. However, unlike most (pretty much all in the world), I don’t have access to that kind of hardware. Digitally speaking, going Opengate in cinema, shared in films such as Dune Pt. 1 and 2, was only really received for extremely expensive industry based cameras like the ARRI Alexa LF and Mini.

So when Blackmagic Design dropped the 6K Full Frame, in the same body style as my pre-loved pocket 6K Pro, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one to try out. Minus no internal ND’s, similarly quick battery life, and slow-mo capped at 36FPS in 6K Opengate, the camera has been a blast to film with. Here are a few projects I shot with the 6K Full Frame, as well as some respective stills too.

Enjoy!
