Nanuk 935 with DIY TrekPak, Portable Camera Storage Perfection

I’ve always been on the hunt for the perfect camera storage solution. Like pretty much every other photographer, cinematographer or gear head out there, you’re probably like me and have gone through tonnes of bags over the years. From duffel bags, to camera bags, backpacks, designer bags made to house camera gear, you name it. For me, I’ve never been fully satisfied with any solution from a value perspective to a function proposition, that is until now.

A few months ago I came across the concept of the TrekPak system Pelican Case offers inside a lot of their portable carry case lineup. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, everyone knows who Pelican case are. Creator of some of the most recognisable hard cases in the world, they are gold standard when it comes to protecting gear. They acquired TrekPak, a company born out of a kickstarter a few years ago, that offered a super space saving efficient method for organising camera, without the need for big bulky velcro padded dividers. I loved the idea so much, that I almost went out and bought one, until realising the limitations.

One being the price, and two being, once you came up with a configuration, you’d have to cut up a whole new bunch of material, and chances are you would run out and have to buy even more in the near future. Enter the Nanuk 935 and custom TrekPaks. I recently purchased a Black Nanuk 935 with a Lid Organiser and empty case to fill all my camera organisation needs, it comes with me now wherever I go and it’s the prefect portable power house. The Lid Organiser to start with, is an absolute must, it’s a great use of space and has two large zipper compartments with an extra large compartment next to them.

The Lid Organiser by Nanuk, it also has a laptop sleeve nestled in the top.

I store all of my loose materials here, like batteries, allen keys, tools and other miscellaneous camera gear items. In the main compartment is really where all the magic happens, that’s where I have my DIY Trek Pak system nestled in, which was a combination of Corflute from my local office supply store “Officeworks”, and double sided adhesive foam mounted to each of the sides of the board. They’re all cut to side, surrounding the inner perimeter of the case, and held together with coloured bent paper clips, to ensure they don’t fly everywhere. Fitting in the bottom divide I can house the following gear and more.
